In this converted artist’s studio you will find a warm, cosy and slightly anachronistic atmosphere. The 60m2 apartment is sheltered from the noise of the street and surrounded by other workshops, and looks out onto an internal patio.
The original artist’s workshop feeling of the property was respected during its refurbishment in 2006. The original wooden and steel structures have been
maintained and an interesting mix employed combining modern equipment with antique furniture such as a 17th century table and a Spanish mirror from the same period. The fascinating history of the property makes it unlike any contemporary apartment you will find.
In the entrance you will come to a small hallway of 10m2 and a U-shaped open-plan kitchen. From here you will move into the 20m2 living room where you will find a sofa-bed (190cm x 120cm), a music system. The bathroom has a shower and a bath. The bedroom is located in the attic space and features a double bed (190cm x 140cm), as well as a children’s bed. The office area features a Mac Mini that includes a wireless internet connection. The entrance hall and living room feature high ceilings (4.5m) and look out onto the patio which you can contemplate through the apartment’s large windows. The property has parquet flooring, and the walls, both in the kitchen and the hallway, are made from stone. A spiral staircase takes you up to the bedroom.
The area around the apartment has everything you might need including grocery stores, newspaper kiosk and a post office.
Please note: Due to the unique characteristics of the apartment, it is not recommendable for persons with mobility problems, as well as for those who may have problems ascending a narrow spiral staircase.
The apartment is in a vibrant, very interesting neighborhood, and is very comfortable. We missed having the usual binder that tells how things in the apartment work and makes suggestions for grocery, restaurants etc. but T was responsive and accommodating.
Cannot express how happy we were with the apartment, with T, and especially with C and J-C during our week long stay.T - your communication before and during our stay was fantastic. It really put my mind at ease to know you cared enough to get back to my many emails so quickly.C and J-C - your hard ...work did not go unnoticed. You deserve the gratitude of all guests who stay here. Thank you for your friendship and for making us feel so welcome. We were thrilled that the apartment looked exactly like it did in the photos. Everything from the layout of the apartment to the neighbourhood was exactly what we hoped for. We will return to Paris, and when we do... we will stay in this exact same apartment. We miss it already!-Jodie and Phil
The location and setting were perfect. The appartment has an authentic look: it's been decorated by someone with an eye for detail. Too bad it wasn't clean: lost of dust, etc. We left it in a better, cleaner state. But in general: good place to stay.
We were delighted by our location! the apartment is located in a lively area and cosmolite, near the metro and bus! It is quiet because it is located on a back yard. Housing is clean, very well equipped (even food!) and deco particularly ... neat. Special mention for t., the owner who was very caring with us! We warmly recommend this rental!
The accommodation is great and offers just the right atmosphere in addition to a sumptuous Paris cut for the city. The location (2 min to the rue Oberkampf) is super because Central and yet peaceful location thanks to outhouse. Thierry of the owner is friendly and uncomplicated. Since I often work ...in ... am Paris will it be not the last time with security, I was staying here! This time, I was with my children in the city and also you and the wife took the apartment to the feel "at home".
The neighbourhood might look edgy, but this is a great location and we always felt safe. It's close to the Metro, there are plenty of good food shops within a few minutes' walk (including an amazing fresh food market twice a week) and plenty of decent places to eat close by. The apartment has ...loads of charm, a really well-equipped kitchen and excellent internet access. Note however that it is reached by steep stairs and the double bedroom is up an even steeper internal staircase. The owner is friendly, honest and very helpful. A real Parisian experience.
A lovely, charming, and utterly unique apartment. One bedroom, with plenty of room to sleep at least four people, this apartment is located in the ground floor level of a lovely inner courtyard in a multi-flat building just off Rue Oberkampf. What a fantastic building! Great neighbours, and felt ...very safe. The neighbourhood is really cool and multicultural, and you get a sense it's where the 'real' Parisians live. It really comes alive at night - but if you're looking for fancy, tree lined boulevards, you might want to look somewhere else ;) Very close to three metro stations, open air markets (in the morning), funky little bookshops, great bakeries, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. It's also near Pere Lachaise cemetery.
The apartment itself is stunning - covered with neat art, incredible architectural features, and walls lined with art history books, it's a real treat to stay here. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything and more you could need to make fabulous meals - full set of great pots and pans, coffee maker, espresso maker, gas stove top, full freezer and fridge, juicer, microwave, etc. There were also odds and ends available for your use - spices, preserves, pasta, frozen baguettes in the freezer, coffee, tea, etc.
The apartment also a clothes washer - such a luxury for frequent travellers! You'll also find an iron, hair dryer, extra towels and toiletries.
There is a large desk (with the coolest barber chair as an office chair!) and computer, a local telephone, and free, good wifi throughout the apartment. There are two TV's, one with cable (BBC was the only English channel we found), and a full audio system.
The bathroom has no 'door' per say, but is thoughtfully tucked away. It has cool wooden floors and ceilings and a really neat shower. There were plenty of extra linens thoughtfully laid out for us by the owner, Thierry.
Although there was a bed (and children's crib) in the loft level of the apartment (accessed by an adorable winding staircase) we slept on the futon in the living area of the apartment on the newer mattress, as per Thierry's recommendation.
My partner and I both have allergies which were moderately aggravated by something in the apartment, but our stay was still an excellent one. Allergy sufferers should bring medication along :)
The flat is also pet friendly! Although we weren't able to bring our dogs with us on this trip, it is indeed pet friendly as advertised, with plenty of little parks nearby to take your pet to to do their business.
Overall, a perfect place to stay in Paris if you really want to live and feel like a local. This apartment is truly one-of-a-kind, and the owner ensures your stay is a superb one.
